Saharsa, February 10: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, police in Saharsa district, Bihar, achieved a breakthrough on Monday. Authorities seized a large quantity of banned codeine-containing cough syrup from a car in the Baijnathpur police station area. Two traffickers were arrested in connection with this case.
Ajit Kumar, the Deputy Superintendent of Police for Cyber Crime in Saharsa, stated that a continuous and intensive campaign is underway to combat illegal drugs, alcohol production, sale, storage, and transportation in the district. As part of this effort, the Baijnathpur police received a tip-off about a white Tata Baleno car transporting a substantial amount of illegal codeine syrup from the Saurabazar area.
Based on this information, police spotted a suspicious vehicle near National Highway 107, close to Baijnathpur Chowk. Upon seeing the police, the driver attempted to flee, but the police acted swiftly to stop the vehicle and apprehended the two individuals inside. During questioning, they identified themselves as Saurav Kumar and Sandeep Kumar.
A search of the vehicle revealed five yellow sacks and two cartons, containing a total of 126 liters of codeine syrup (Wiskof).
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the seized cough syrup falls under the prohibited category of the NDPS Act. The arrested traffickers are residents of Sukhasan Manhara in the Singheswar police station area of Madhubani district. Police investigations revealed that Saurav Kumar has previous cases registered against him for theft at the Singheswar police station and robbery at the sadar police station, while Sandeep Kumar has a case registered under the liquor ban law at the Madhubani sadar police station. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the entire matter.
