New Delhi, July 15: A significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking has been achieved in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh, under the ongoing operation ‘Aaghaat’. Jashpur police successfully seized approximately 552 kilograms of cannabis, three vehicles, and other items, totaling an estimated value of ₹1,20,82,400.
Two inter-state traffickers were arrested during the operation, while two other suspects managed to escape into the forest. Police are actively pursuing them.
According to police reports, a special campaign against drug trafficking is being conducted under the direction of Inspector General (IG) Deepak Kumar Jha of the Surguja range. This operation was carried out based on crucial information received from Superintendent of Police Ratna Singh of MCB, led by DIG and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Lal Umed Singh in the Kunakuri and Bagicha areas.
During the operation, a search of an Innova car in the Kunakuri police station area resulted in the recovery of 311 kilograms and 35 grams of cannabis. In the Bagicha area, police seized 240 kilograms and 810 grams of cannabis from a Brezza car. Additionally, a vehicle used for surveillance of the traffickers’ activities was also confiscated.
The police arrested Sachindra Raut and Mohammad Sameer, both residents of Sundargarh, Odisha, from an Ertiga car. Initial investigations suggest that both are linked to an inter-state cannabis trafficking network. Authorities are now investigating other members of the gang and the supply chain.
In total, police have seized three vehicles and 552.16 kilograms of cannabis. Cases have been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal action is underway.
