
Aizawl, March 16: In a significant operation early Sunday morning, police in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, made a major drug bust. Authorities seized methamphetamine (Yaba) tablets valued at approximately ₹1.56 crore and arrested two individuals.
The operation took place around 2:30 AM when a CID (Special Branch) team stopped a maxi cab (registration number MZ-04-4219) near the AMC office in Thuamphui. The vehicle was en route to Bongkawn. During the search, officers discovered 1.956 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets hidden inside the vehicle.
Both individuals in the vehicle were promptly detained. One of the arrested is the driver, Lal Sangliana, 33, originally from Shadaw in Myanmar, who was residing in the Taitesina section of Joakhawthar. The second suspect, Saidur Hussain Talukdar, 34, hails from the Dudhpatil area of Silchar in Assam and is believed to be the receiver of this shipment.
Investigations revealed that this drug consignment was smuggled from Joakhawthar, passing through Champhai, Khawzawl, and reaching Aizawl. Police indicated that the plan was to transport the consignment further to Silchar in Assam.
A case has been registered at the Special Narcotic Police Station under case number 10/2026, with charges filed against the accused under sections 22(c), 25, and 29(1) of the NDPS Act. Investigative agencies are now working to identify the entire network involved in this operation.
