Major Demolition in Bandras Garib Nagar: 1,300 Illegal Structures Removed Ahead of Development Plans
Former MP Kirit Somaiya announces removal of 1,300 illegal structures in Bandras Garib Nagar, paving the way for new development projects.

Mumbai, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Former MP and senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya visited Bandra’s Garib Nagar on Thursday to inspect the area following a significant demolition operation. During his visit, he addressed various issues, including the removal of illegal encroachments and future development plans for the locality.
After assessing the site, Somaiya stated, “Millions of residents in Bandra can now breathe easy. We have driven out all the land mafias. Approximately 1,400 families claimed this land, but around 1,300 structures have been demolished, and 100 families have been relocated.”
He emphasized that all unauthorized activities in Garib Nagar have been halted, and illegal constructions have been dismantled. “Post-Diwali, we will begin construction on a multi-modal railway terminal here, which will include a yard for 5 to 7 diesel locomotives, parking facilities, and additional train lines. The transformation of the Garib Nagar railway terminal will be evident to everyone in two years,” he added.
Somaiya also mentioned that construction would commence this Diwali, aiming for the project to be completed by the next Diwali. He assured that issues related to rickshaw drivers, drug trafficking, and land mafias would be resolved.
Addressing concerns about illegal immigrants listed in electoral rolls, Somaiya criticized the opposition, stating, “The Thackeray faction and Rahul Gandhi only see votes and jihad. Their actions have obstructed development, but the railway authorities have taken decisive action and cleared the area. Attempts were made to include illegal names among the 100 families that were relocated, but Narendra and Devendra have ensured transparency.”
The issue of encroachments on railway land in Bandra has been ongoing for years, with allegations that land and slum mafias had constructed illegal buildings. Recently, the administration carried out a major operation, resulting in the removal of around 1,300 illegal structures.
