Manipurs Chief Minister emphasizes the need for inclusive governance during National Unity Day celebrations, honoring Sardar Patels legacy.

Imphal, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of Manipur emphasized the importance of inclusive governance during a National Unity Day event in Imphal on Saturday. He pointed out that the state is home to 36 distinct communities and stressed that prioritizing the interests of just one community is not a viable approach to governance.
Khemchand Singh urged the public to recognize that community-centric thinking does not foster unity, peace, or economic progress within the state. He made these remarks while addressing attendees at the First Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground.
Highlighting the significance of the day, the Chief Minister noted that October 31 marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrated nationwide as National Unity Day. This day serves to reinforce national unity and honor Patel’s unwavering efforts in building a stronger nation. The initiative was launched in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Khemchand Singh praised Patel’s vision, recalling how he led various movements against British rule, including the non-violent civil disobedience movement and the Quit India Movement. He also mentioned that following India’s independence, Patel’s efforts were instrumental in uniting the princely states, thereby strengthening the country’s unity and integrity.
As a tribute to India’s Iron Man, the Chief Minister reminded attendees that on October 31, 2018, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the world’s tallest statue, the ‘Statue of Unity,’ in Gujarat to honor Patel.
The event featured a march past by nine contingents from the Manipur Rifles and police, led by the commanding officer of the Fourth Manipur Rifles Battalion, Pramesh Arambam. A dance performance titled “Akhoigi Apunba Saktham” (Our Collective Identity) was also presented by the Government Dance Academy.
Notable figures in attendance included Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, several legislators, the Chief Secretary, security advisors, and senior administrative and police officials.
