Major Arrests in Delhi: Two Notorious Auto Lifters Captured

New Delhi, March 5: The Vivek Vihar police in East Delhi have made significant strides in combating vehicle theft by arresting two notorious auto lifters. Authorities recovered a black Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle stolen from Jhilmil Colony, along with a Splendor Plus bike used in the theft. This operation has thwarted several potential vehicle thefts in the area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Akash (22) and Anoop Kumar (22), both residents of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

In response to the rising incidents of vehicle thefts, the Vivek Vihar police formed a special team. Under the leadership of SHO Inspector Harkesh Gaba and the supervision of ACP Mohit Singh, the team conducted night patrols and surveillance. On the night of February 28 and March 1, around 2 AM, police spotted two suspicious youths loitering near vehicles in Jhilmil Colony. Constables Subhash Kumar and Chintu promptly detained them for questioning.

During the investigation, police reviewed nearby CCTV footage, which matched the suspects’ appearances with those seen in a previous Royal Enfield Bullet theft in Jhilmil Colony. A search of the suspects’ bags revealed tools commonly used for auto theft, including screwdrivers and wire cutters. Under intense questioning, both admitted to being involved in multiple vehicle thefts, including the Royal Enfield Bullet stolen on February 23. A case has been registered at Vivek Vihar police station under e-FIR number 04195/2026, citing Section 305(B) of the BNS.

Following their confession, police raided Anoop’s residence in the Bhupura area of Sahibabad, where they recovered the stolen Royal Enfield Bullet. According to police reports, both suspects come from impoverished families and have completed education up to the 10th grade. They have previously been involved in vehicle thefts but had evaded capture until now. The investigation revealed that both youths are addicted to drugs and resorted to stealing two-wheelers to fund their addiction and alleviate their financial struggles.
