Chennai, April 8: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a significant administrative reshuffle in Tamil Nadu ahead of the state assembly elections. N. Muruganandam, the current Chief Secretary, has been removed from his position. Senior IAS officer M. Sai Kumar has been appointed to replace him with immediate effect.
In its official order, the Election Commission directed the Tamil Nadu government to implement these changes without delay and submit a compliance report by 6 PM the same day. This move aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
Additionally, senior IPS officer Sandeep Mittal has been appointed as the head of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and the Armed Police. He takes over from Davidson Devasirvatham, who was removed at the commission’s directive.
The Election Commission has also made it clear that the removed officials will not be assigned any election-related responsibilities until the voting process is completed. This indicates the commission’s strict stance against any bias or misuse of government machinery during the elections.
Typically, such high-level administrative changes are made during elections to maintain a fair environment and provide equal opportunities to all political parties.
Currently, electoral activities in Tamil Nadu are intensifying, with all major parties in the final stages of campaigning. The commission’s actions reflect its commitment to conducting free and fair elections.
These sudden top-level changes are likely to have an immediate impact on administration and electoral preparations, as the new officials will take on critical responsibilities during this sensitive period.
