Maharashtras Deputy CM Calls for Reflection After MLC Election Results

Deputy CM Supriya Pawar emphasizes the need for introspection following the recent MLC election results in Maharashtra.

Pune, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Supriya Pawar has acknowledged the necessity for introspection following the recent results of the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections. Her comments came in response to the defeat of NCP candidate Satish Chavan in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar graduate constituency, where the NCP’s Pratapsingh Patil emerged victorious.

In the elections, the Mahayuti alliance secured wins in the Pune and Amaravati teacher seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) claimed three seats, including Pune graduate, Nagpur graduate, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar graduate.

Speaking to reporters, Pawar stated, “Every election brings victories and losses. It is essential to reflect on the results, and we will do so. We will strive for improvement. I believe these results certainly warrant our introspection.”

Her remarks followed a social media post by NCP’s executive president Praful Patel, who described the election outcomes as a clear warning for the party. Patel emphasized the need for the party to regain public trust, realign its priorities, and strengthen its organizational structure.

Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare also mentioned that the party would analyze the election results. He noted that the responsibility for candidate selection and election outcomes lies collectively with the party leadership. Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance’s coalition partners, BJP and Shiv Sena, have begun exchanging accusations over the results.

Some Mahayuti leaders have blamed Shiv Sena for the losses. BJP leaders allege that Shiv Sena failed to provide the necessary support in Pune and Nagpur. BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban claimed that by backing Sachin Sanap at the last minute, Shiv Sena weakened the unity of the alliance. He asserted that the votes Sanap received did not benefit the BJP candidate.

Ban also accused Minister Abdul Sattar of campaigning directly against the NCP candidate in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which he argued harmed the coalition’s chances. He stated that if Shiv Sena had adhered to “Mahayuti Dharma” by supporting both BJP and NCP candidates, the alliance could have won all five seats.

In response to BJP’s allegations, Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Paranjape countered that the BJP had fielded a candidate for the Pune graduate seat who was not even a party member. He argued that had the BJP selected an experienced and dedicated worker, it would have generated enthusiasm among party workers and voters.

Paranjape criticized the notion that “we will fight and win all seats” is beneficial for the Mahayuti. He urged the BJP to respect its coalition partners. He also suggested that the BJP, claiming to be the world’s largest party, should reflect on its electoral strategies and internal discontent rather than blaming its allies.
