Embracing Yoga: The Importance of Regular Practice and Patience

The AYUSH Ministry emphasizes the significance of regular yoga practice for mental and physical well-being.

New Delhi, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : In today’s fast-paced world, many people turn to yoga to stay fit and healthy. Whether it’s for weight loss or stress relief, yoga offers various benefits. However, it is essential to understand that yoga is not merely about performing challenging poses or twisting the body into different shapes. It is a holistic practice that requires regularity, patience, self-awareness, and an understanding of one’s capabilities.

The AYUSH Ministry recently shared key principles regarding yoga practice. According to the ministry, yoga is not a competition where one has to outdo others. Its true purpose lies in understanding the body and mind, fostering a better harmony between the two.

To fully reap the benefits of yoga, it should be integrated into your daily routine. Practicing occasionally or attempting to fit in hours of practice in a single day is less effective than dedicating a short time each day. Consistency is a crucial principle in yoga. Beginners can start with simple poses and gradually increase their practice duration.

Often, individuals try to replicate advanced poses they see others performing, especially on social media. This can be harmful, as everyone’s body is unique, with different capabilities. It is crucial to recognize your physical condition, needs, and limitations while practicing yoga. Avoid forcing yourself into poses or putting excessive strain on your body.

While practicing yoga, focus not only on completing the poses but also on how your body feels. Pay attention to your breathing, the tension within your body, and your mental state. If you experience pain or discomfort during a pose, do not ignore it; understanding your body’s signals is an essential part of yoga practice.

Many people perceive yoga solely as a physical exercise, but its scope is much broader. The principles of Yama and Niyama hold significant importance in yoga. These principles guide moral and personal discipline in life. Yama teaches us to behave appropriately towards others, while Niyama encourages qualities like self-discipline, cleanliness, and contentment.

Through regular practice and mindfulness, yoga can lead to profound physical and mental benefits, enriching one’s lifestyle.
