Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Launches Book on Indias Internal Emergency of 1975

Yogi Adityanath unveiled a book detailing the struggles during Indias 1975 Emergency, authored by BJP leader Shatarudra Prakash.

Lucknow, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the book “Bharat Aantarik Emergency 1975” on October 29 at his official residence. The book, authored by former minister and BJP leader Shatarudra Prakash, was presented to the Chief Minister during the event, which was also attended by BJP leaders Ramesh Mishra and CP Singh.

The publication outlines the Emergency declared from 1975 to 1977, highlighting the restrictions on democratic rights and the movements that opposed them. It details the arrests of opposition leaders and social activists during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s rule, along with the censorship imposed on newspapers and the curtailment of civil liberties.

Described as a challenging period for Indian democracy, the book covers the Emergency from June 25, 1975, to March 23, 1977. It references the movement led by Loknayan Jayaprakash Narayan, forced sterilizations, the removal of impoverished communities, and issues related to constitutional institutions. The struggles of activists who persisted despite opposition are prominently featured.

Additionally, the book chronicles Shatarudra Prakash’s political journey and his anti-Emergency activities. After engaging in student politics at Banaras Hindu University from 1968 to 1973, he fought for basic amenities for the poor in Varanasi. In 1974, he became one of the youngest members of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The narrative also includes the arrest of his wife, Anjana Prakash, during the Emergency and the activities of underground activists. The book details the dissemination of anti-Emergency thoughts and messages related to democratic rights through a cyclostyled bulletin named “Ranbhari.”
