Pune, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Maharashtra government has taken significant action in response to ongoing protests by candidates demanding reforms in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). A five-member committee has been formed to investigate irregularities and improve recruitment processes. Retired judge Dilip Bhosale will lead the committee, with senior IAS officer Tukaram Munde appointed as its secretary.
The announcement came on Sunday during a meeting between state minister Shivendraraje Bhosale and protesting candidates at the SM Joshi Bridge in Pune. These candidates have been demonstrating for the past ten days, calling for various reforms within the MPSC.
In addition to Munde, the committee will include Lakshmi Gautam, Ganesh Patil, and retired judge P.D. Naik. The committee is expected to address complaints related to the MPSC’s operations and recruitment procedures.
This decision is seen as a crucial step towards meeting the demands of the protesting candidates. However, it remains unclear what action the government will take regarding the demand for the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimnwar.
The protesters’ demands extend beyond operational reforms. They are also calling for the withdrawal of cases against some representatives involved in the protests, the recruitment of 70,000 positions over the next three years, and an increase in the number of positions for the Group-C exam scheduled for January.
Furthermore, candidates are requesting background checks for the appointments of the MPSC chairman and secretary before their selection. Minister Shivendraraje Bhosale assured the protesters that their other demands would also be considered.
Rohit Patil, a legislator from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), expressed support for the inclusion of Tukaram Munde in the committee, hoping it will function independently. Following the committee’s formation, there are reports that MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimnwar will go on leave until the investigation is complete.
