Madhya Pradeshs Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Scheme to Marry Off 44,000 Couples This Year

Bhopal, March 17: In Madhya Pradesh, over 44,000 couples from underprivileged and needy families will tie the knot this year under the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah-Nikah Scheme. The state government has set this ambitious target and has also finalized the dates for these weddings.

The government allocates ₹55,000 for each marriage, with ₹49,000 going to the bride and ₹6,000 for event expenses. Specific dates for the weddings have been announced, including Akshaya Tritiya on April 19, Dev Uthani Gyaras (Tulsi Vivah) on November 20, 2026, and Basant Panchami on February 11, 2027. An additional date may be determined based on local demand and the collector’s decision. The state aims to conduct over 44,000 weddings in the 2026-27 period, with an expenditure exceeding ₹242 crores.

According to the Principal Secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Disabled Welfare, a minimum of 11 couples and a maximum of 200 couples will participate in each collective wedding ceremony. These events will take place across 55 districts, allowing for the marriage of 800 couples at each occasion, totaling 44,000 couples.

In the previous year, 51,899 weddings and 28,362 nikahs were conducted under the scheme, providing assistance amounting to ₹321 crores.

To participate in the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Scheme, interested individuals can register on the online portal. The scheme provides ₹49,000 directly to the bride’s bank account and ₹6,000 to the organizing committee, totaling ₹55,000 per marriage.
