Lula Criticizes U.S. Involvement in Cuba and Venezuela Affairs

São Paulo, February 8: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has expressed strong objections to the United States’ role in the internal matters of Cuba and Venezuela. He stated clearly that the people of any country should resolve their issues without interference from external powers.

During a speech at the Workers’ Party’s 46th anniversary celebration in Salvador, Bahia, President Lula emphasized Brazil’s solidarity with the Cuban people. He accused U.S. policies and speculation of exacerbating the tragedy faced by the Cuban population.

“Our country stands with the people of Cuba, and as a political party, we must seek ways to assist them,” Lula remarked.

Lula also targeted the U.S. regarding Venezuela, asserting, “The solution to Venezuela’s problems will come from its people, not from the United States or Trump.”

Meanwhile, tensions have escalated regarding discussions between the U.S. and Cuba. On Thursday, the White House dismissed concerns raised by Cuban leadership, stating that President Donald Trump is open to diplomacy and that dialogue between the two nations is already ongoing.

A journalist referenced a statement from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who indicated that Cuba would only engage in talks with the U.S. under conditions of no pressure, no preconditions, equality, and respect for sovereignty. The Cuban government also refuted Trump’s claim that conversations were taking place.

In response, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt commented that the Cuban government is in a critical phase and facing dire conditions, suggesting they should exercise caution in their statements against the U.S. However, she reiterated that President Trump is always ready for diplomatic discussions, claiming that dialogue between the U.S. and the Cuban government is indeed ongoing.
