Bay Oval, 18 December. The third Test between New Zealand and West Indies began on Thursday at Bay Oval. Winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first and ended the first day at 334 for 1 wicket. Devon Conway was unbeaten on 178, while Jacob Duffy remained not out on 9 runs.

The opening day belonged entirely to New Zealand. West Indies’ bowlers and fielders were seen running hard throughout the day. Kiwi captain Tom Latham and Devon Conway opened the innings for New Zealand.

Latham and Conway put together a massive 323-run partnership for the first wicket, which is the eighth highest opening stand in New Zealand’s Test history.

Latham scored 137 runs off 246 balls, including 1 six and 15 fours, before getting out. This was his 15th Test century.

Devon Conway remained unbeaten on 178 runs from 279 balls, hitting 25 fours. This is Conway’s sixth Test century. He is just 22 runs short of his double century. When the second day’s play resumes, all eyes will be on Conway as he aims to reach this milestone. If successful, it will be his second double century in Test cricket.

Latham’s wicket fell towards the end of the day, dismissed on the fourth ball of the 87th over. Jacob Duffy was sent in as the nightwatchman and remained unbeaten on 9 runs from 16 balls.

For West Indies, Kemar Roach claimed the only wicket. Other bowlers struggled throughout the day.

In the three-match Test series, New Zealand leads 1-0. The first Test was drawn, while New Zealand won the second Test.
