Hassan, May 8: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy stated on Friday that the political crisis in Tamil Nadu could be resolved within the next two to three days. He expressed skepticism about the long-standing political rivals, DMK and AIADMK, forming an alliance to establish a government.
After offering prayers at the Ranganathaswamy Hill Temple in Mavinakere, Hassan district, Kumaraswamy addressed the media. He remarked that he does not foresee DMK and AIADMK joining forces to sideline TVK for power. “Currently, I do not see any possibility of that happening,” he said.
Kumaraswamy noted that the Tamil Nadu Governor is consulting legal experts and taking steps regarding government formation. “There are still some developments yet to unfold,” he added.
In response to a question, Kumaraswamy mentioned that the Governor has asked Vijay to present letters of support from his party’s legislators. He stated, “The Governor is acting according to the political circumstances of the state. There is no question of central government intervention in this matter.”
Expressing concern over the promises made by TVK leader Vijay, Kumaraswamy quipped, “Only God can save Vijay.” He raised a critical point, questioning how Vijay plans to fulfill his promises of free schemes, which would require at least 6 lakh crore rupees, while the total budget for Tamil Nadu stands at 35 lakh crore rupees.
TVK emerged as the largest party in the 234-member assembly, winning 108 seats. Amid ongoing political uncertainty regarding government formation, Vijay met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Tuesday to claim the right to form a government. However, the Governor informed him that an invitation to form the government could only be extended after demonstrating a sufficient majority.
