Kritika Kamra Shares Unique Experience of Living in 60s and 70s Mumbai in Matka King

Mumbai, April 16: The trend of showcasing stories from different eras is rapidly gaining popularity on OTT platforms. One such series making waves is ‘Matka King,’ which explores life in Mumbai during the 1960s and 70s. Actress Kritika Kamra recently shared her experiences related to the show.

Kritika Kamra plays the role of Gulrukh, a Parsi woman, in the series. She mentioned that working on this show allowed her to immerse herself in a different time period.

In her conversation, Kritika stated, “When an artist becomes part of a project based on the past, stepping onto the set makes you feel as if you are truly in that era. As soon as I arrived on set and wore the clothes from that time, it felt like I had genuinely entered the world of the 60s and 70s. The language, lifestyle, and behavior of people from that time were entirely different from today, making it a unique experience for me.”

She added, “Life back then was much slower compared to today, as technology was not as advanced. Everything took time, and people had more patience. The show attempts to depict all these aspects in detail, allowing viewers to truly feel the essence of that time.”

During the conversation, Kritika also shared an interesting point. She noted that there is a moment in the show when matka numbers start coming through the phone. However, the phones of that era were not like today’s. Back then, operators manually connected calls.

She remarked, “Today’s younger generation might be completely unaware of these things, as technology has advanced significantly.”

The actress expressed, “Many aspects of that era were quite fascinating to me. Although times have changed, people’s emotions and hopes remain the same. Humans are always connected to hope, and this sentiment is also reflected in the show. This is why I could easily relate to my character and the story.”

‘Matka King’ revolves around a man who rapidly rises in the world of gambling, establishing his identity in Mumbai during that time. The story also highlights the significant role of textile mills, which were a major part of the city’s economy back then.

The show is set to premiere on Prime Video on April 17.
