Kolkata, February 27: The Kolkata Police have praised the bravery of Inspector Prosenjit Chatterjee following a recent fire incident. On Thursday, they shared a video on the social media platform X, highlighting his courageous actions during the emergency.
In their post, the Kolkata Police stated, “Kudos to Inspector Prosenjit! A major fire hazard was averted on February 24 near St. Thomas School in Kidderpore, thanks to the bravery of Inspector Prosenjit Chatterjee, Officer in Charge of the Vidyasagar Setu Traffic Guard.”
On that day, while managing traffic near the Vidyasagar Setu, Inspector Chatterjee noticed flames erupting from an electric pole. This pole was located in a busy area with schools, shops, and residential buildings nearby, making the situation extremely dangerous. The fire was spreading rapidly, and the risk of an explosion due to a short circuit in the power lines loomed large.
Without hesitation, Inspector Chatterjee assessed the situation. He did not wait for the fire brigade to arrive, as time was of the essence and the fire could spiral out of control. He quickly parked his traffic police vehicle directly beneath the pole, climbed onto the roof, and attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher.
Putting his life at risk, he used the extinguisher multiple times and successfully put out the fire. The crowd around him applauded his bravery, with many expressing their gratitude.
The Kolkata Police shared the incident’s video, stating, “While managing traffic, he noticed an electric pole engulfed in flames. Understanding the danger in a crowded area, he did not wait for the fire tender.”
They further added, “Instead, he parked his vehicle right under the pole, climbed on top, and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, risking his own life. Due to his swift action and courage, local residents thanked him wholeheartedly. We salute our colleague for going above and beyond in the line of duty!”
