Keralas PP Divya Seeks Review of Party Actions Amid Investigation
PP Divya requests CPI(M) leadership to reconsider actions against her amid ongoing investigations into her tenure as district council head.

Thiruvananthapuram, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : PP Divya, the former chairperson of the Kannur District Panchayat, has reached out to the central leadership of the CPI(M) to request a review of actions taken against her. This appeal comes as she faces scrutiny related to her tenure in local governance.
In her letter, Divya questioned her removal from the Democratic Women’s Association and expressed concern over being barred from working at the party’s Kannur district center after being dismissed from her position as state joint secretary. She alleged that district secretary P.K. Shyamala, who is married to CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan, has obstructed her from participating in party activities and is calling for a reconsideration of these decisions.
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby confirmed receipt of Divya’s letter and indicated that the matter could be discussed further. He also mentioned that he had spoken with Divya over the phone. Notably, this letter was sent just before an extended meeting of the Kannur district committee.
Divya has been in the news since the death of Additional District Magistrate K. Naveen Babu in October 2024. Following this incident, she was removed from the Kannur district committee and reassigned to the Irinave branch. The situation worsened for her after the UDF government, led by V.D. Satheesan, came to power in May 2024, announcing a CBI investigation into Naveen Babu’s death.
On Friday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala stated that the government had decided to conduct a vigilance inquiry into Divya’s transactions during her term as the chairperson of the Kannur District Panchayat from 2020 to 2025, following a review of records. This investigation relates to allegations involving the allocation of projects and the role of a private company, whose managing director has been accused of benefiting from certain contracts.
The director welcomed the proposed vigilance inquiry, asserting that previous investigations had cleared them of wrongdoing. He stated, “We have nothing to worry about as all works were awarded through e-tendering.”
The new investigation adds to the pressure on Divya, who has already faced political setbacks following the Naveen Babu case. Her appeal to the CPI(M) central leadership seeks to address her standing within the party amid these challenges. Divya was once a significant figure in Kannur politics, but her influence has diminished since the unfortunate events surrounding Babu’s death.
