Nagoya, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Indian shooter Vidarsa K. Vinod has made headlines by winning a silver medal in the 10-meter air rifle team event at the 2026 Asian Games held in Nagoya. Hailing from Kerala, Vidarsa’s achievement has drawn accolades from Kerala’s Chief Minister V.D. Sathishan.
The Chief Minister shared his congratulations via a video call, expressing his pride in Vidarsa’s accomplishment and wishing her a bright future. In response, Vidarsa expressed her gratitude for the support she received.
Following her victory, Vidarsa shared her joy, stating, “I am thrilled to have won this medal for Team India. I feel a deep sense of pride, and I lack the words to convey my happiness.” She noted that after not medaling in the individual competition, she felt some pressure but focused on her fundamentals and preparation, which paid off.
Vidarsa dedicated her medal to her coach, Manoj Kumar, acknowledging that it would not have been possible without his guidance. She also extended her gratitude to her family, husband, brother, and physiotherapist, Anuj Kumar, recognizing the support from everyone involved in her journey.
“I will take a little rest now and prepare for the next match,” she added.
Her husband, Manu, highlighted the extensive preparation leading up to this medal. He expressed immense pride in Vidarsa’s hard work and sacrifices, stating, “Seeing her on the podium was a wonderful moment.” He emphasized that while she did not win an individual medal, the team success brought them equal joy. Manu dedicated the medal first to the nation and then to Coach Manoj Kumar for his invaluable support.
Vidarsa is set to return to competition on September 26 for the women’s 50-meter rifle 3 positions event, where she is considered a specialist.
Another team member, Sonam Uttam Maskar, expressed her pride in winning the silver, dedicating the medal to her parents, who have been instrumental in her journey. Working with the railways, Sonam acknowledged the support from the government, SAI, and her sponsors.
The third member of the silver-winning team, Elavenil Valarivan, also secured a silver medal in the individual 10-meter air rifle event.
