Nagoya, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Elavenil Valarivan clinched the silver medal in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event at the Asian Games 2026, held on September 20 in Nagoya. Competing at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, she finished second, while Japan’s Hinata Taichi took home the gold with a record score of 253.0.
Valarivan maintained control for much of the final, starting strong and leading after the first five shots with a score of 53.1. As the elimination rounds began, she extended her lead, staying ahead with consistent high scores.
Despite her strong performance, the competition for gold intensified in the final stages. Valarivan entered the last round just 0.3 points ahead of Taichi. She scored 10.4 points, but Taichi closed the gap with a score of 10.6. To secure her position, Valarivan needed a strong finish but managed only 10.1 points. Taichi’s final score of 10.2 pushed her to a total of 253.0 points, earning her the gold, while Valarivan finished with 252.4 points for the silver.
This achievement marked a memorable day for Valarivan, who helped secure a silver medal for India in the team competition earlier. With two silver medals won in under an hour, she has established herself as one of India’s top shooters at the Asian Games.
