Pathanamthitta, March 24: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is once again embroiled in controversy over his remarks made during an election rally. His sharp response at a rally in Konni has sparked significant political debate.
The incident occurred on Monday night at an LDF conference in Pathanamthitta district. While the Chief Minister was discussing infrastructure development, an audience member attempted to ask a question. Before he could finish, the Chief Minister interrupted him, saying, “Go home and ask.”
The individual was later identified as Das P. George, a party worker from Atta Chakkal East Mukku. George defended the Chief Minister, stating that his question was about development and the lack of funds from the central government. He acknowledged that interrupting could disrupt the speech but expressed his admiration for the Chief Minister, suggesting that the response may have been in that context.
The video of this incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting the opposition to seize upon it. UDF supporters presented the clip as evidence of the Chief Minister’s “true behavior.”
Critics argue that the public relations efforts aimed at softening the Chief Minister’s image falter in light of such incidents. The opposition has raised questions, turning the comment into an electoral issue: when party workers come asking for votes, will voters respond in the same manner?
Previously, the Chief Minister’s remarks during the election season have also stirred controversy. He labeled the stance of independent candidate and former cabinet colleague G. Sudhakaran from Ambalappuzha as “disgusting,” calling it a “betrayal.” Sudhakaran responded sharply, criticizing the Chief Minister for using derogatory language without understanding its social implications, which he deemed inappropriate for a leader.
