Karnataka High Court Upholds FIR in Airport Misconduct Case Involving South Korean Woman

Bengaluru, April 6: The Karnataka High Court has rejected a petition seeking the cancellation of an FIR against an airport staff member accused of misconduct towards a South Korean woman at Kempegowda International Airport.

The court expressed strong disapproval of the incident and the behavior of the accused. A bench led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna questioned why the accused should be spared from accountability.

During the hearing, the court noted that the victim, a foreign national, had clearly articulated her experience. The bench highlighted that the airport employee, working for a private firm, allegedly escorted the South Korean woman to the restroom and inappropriately touched her.

The court raised concerns about the accused’s conduct, questioning what kind of official he was. It reprimanded him for leading the victim to a men’s restroom.

The incident was reported to the BIAL police station. According to the woman’s complaint, the event occurred on January 19 when she was at the airport to catch a flight to South Korea.

After clearing immigration, the woman was heading towards the terminal when the accused staff member stopped her and requested her boarding pass. He allegedly claimed there was an issue with her checked baggage, stating that an alert had been triggered.

The accused purportedly informed the Korean woman that returning to the main screening area would delay her and risk missing her flight. He insisted on a separate check and led her near the men’s restroom, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately against her will.

When the woman protested, the accused reportedly hugged her, thanked her, and left. She immediately informed airport security about the incident. The airport security personnel detained the accused and handed him over to the police.
