Patna, April 4: In response to a recent tragedy involving toxic alcohol in East Champaran, the administration in Vaishali district, Bihar, has launched a comprehensive crackdown on illegal liquor operations, delivering a significant blow to the liquor mafia.
Under the directives of Vaishali SP Vikram Singh, police conducted extensive raids in the Diara region, where illicit country liquor was being produced.
During the operation on Saturday, officials destroyed a large quantity of country liquor and the distilleries used for its production. This action was initiated after Mahnar police station received specific intelligence regarding widespread illegal liquor manufacturing activities in the area.
Following this, a special police team was formed under the supervision of the SP, and the raids commenced. Upon arrival, the police team was surprised to find several distilleries operational.
Acting swiftly, they dismantled all illegal distilleries and destroyed approximately 1,500 liters of country liquor on-site. Equipment used in the liquor-making process was also completely destroyed.
According to officials, members of the liquor mafia managed to flee the scene upon seeing police vehicles. Efforts to identify and apprehend the absconding suspects are ongoing, with continuous raids being conducted in the area.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Mahnar confirmed that the operation was based on confidential information. He stated that immediate action was taken to dismantle the distilleries and destroy prohibited goods upon confirmation of illegal liquor production.
He further noted that the ongoing campaign will continue with further actions planned. This crackdown follows a tragic incident in East Champaran, where six people reportedly died from consuming counterfeit liquor, and over 15 others fell seriously ill.
An official reported that the victims had consumed the alcohol on April 1, and their health rapidly deteriorated, leading to several deaths and hospitalizations on April 2.
This incident has reinforced the administration’s resolve to take decisive action against the illegal liquor trade throughout the region.
