Patna, April 7: The Bihar Police has suspended former DSP Gautam Kumar from Kishanganj with immediate effect. This significant administrative action comes as the Home Department initiates departmental proceedings against him.
An official notification from the Home Department has confirmed the suspension. During this period, Kumar will report to the DIG office in the Champaran range, Bettiah.
This decision follows an investigation by the Economic Offences Unit. Previously, Kumar was removed from his position as SDPO in Kishanganj and was reassigned to the police headquarters. On April 6, he was interrogated for nearly five hours at the Economic Offences Unit office in Patna.
The case revolves around allegations of Kumar holding assets disproportionate to his known income. On March 31, 2026, teams from the Economic Offences Unit conducted raids at several locations linked to him in Kishanganj, Patna, and Purnia. The investigation revealed that he had amassed assets approximately 60% greater than his declared income.
Officials noted that the properties are registered not only in his name but also in the names of his wife, mother-in-law, and other associates. Additionally, there are suspicions of over ₹80 crore in undisclosed assets.
According to government records, the preliminary investigation has uncovered evidence of disproportionate assets amounting to around ₹1.94 crore (approximately 60.27% more than his known income).
The suspension is executed under Rule 9(1)(A) and (C) of the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 2005. The case is registered under Economic Offences Police Station Case No. 03/2026 (dated March 29, 2026), invoking sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended 2018).
Departmental proceedings against Gautam Kumar will commence shortly. During the suspension, he will receive a subsistence allowance as per service rules.
Officials have indicated that further legal and departmental actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
