Karnataka Government Sends 500 Linemen to Aid Cyclone-Hit Andhra Pradesh
Karnataka aids Andhra Pradesh with 500 linemen and equipment to restore power after Cyclone Arnavs devastation.

Bengaluru, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Karnataka government has stepped up to assist Andhra Pradesh in restoring power following the devastation caused by Cyclone Arnav. In response to a request from Andhra Pradesh for additional manpower and equipment to repair its electricity infrastructure, Karnataka has mobilized resources under the spirit of cooperation between neighboring states.
Energy Minister K.J. George is overseeing the relief efforts. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar assured Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu over the phone of Karnataka’s commitment to provide all possible assistance during this challenging time.
“Karnataka stands firmly with the people of Andhra Pradesh. Restoring power is crucial for the welfare of those affected by the disaster,” Shivakumar stated.
To expedite the restoration of power, Karnataka has dispatched 500 trained linemen, 15 Palfinger trucks equipped with cranes and auger machines, and 25 tractor-mounted drilling machines to the impacted areas. These teams were sent on an emergency basis on Monday afternoon, with an expected arrival by midnight.
To ensure effective coordination, each electricity supply company (ESCOM) has appointed a single point of contact to liaise with Andhra Pradesh officials. The linemen are organized into teams of ten, each led by a junior engineer or assistant engineer. An executive engineer from each operations and maintenance circle will oversee deployment and coordination.
In addition to the linemen, drivers and operators for the Palfinger trucks and drilling machines have also been dispatched to facilitate the effective use of equipment at the work sites.
The Karnataka government has decided to allocate emergency funds to cover unexpected expenses related to the travel, accommodation, and other necessities for the deployed personnel. This timely assistance reflects Karnataka’s commitment to stand by Andhra Pradesh during natural disasters under the “neighbor first” principle and aims to restore essential power services to those impacted by the cyclone as swiftly as possible.
