
Karachi, March 4: Following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, security measures in Pakistan have been intensified due to protests that resulted in 11 fatalities. Karachi has remained closed for the third consecutive day.
During the protests outside the U.S. Consulate, at least 11 demonstrators lost their lives, with many others injured.
According to reports from Geo News, barricades have been set up on Mai Kolachi Road. Traffic police are deployed throughout the area. Access from Boat Basin to Mai Kolachi is restricted to residents and office-goers who can present identification.
Shipping containers have been placed on the PIDC Bridge to block regular traffic towards Jinnah Bridge and Mai Kolachi. Barricades are also in place on MT Khan Road and PIDC Road, where police and Rangers are stationed.
Roads leading from Jinnah Bridge to Mai Kolachi and PIDC Road have been closed. Residents near Bilawal House and Boat Basin are advised to take alternative routes via Clifton Bridge towards Metropole and I.I. Chundrigar Road.
Traffic and local police officers are deployed in various areas of Karachi. Authorities have reported that personnel are stationed across the city. Citizens can contact the traffic police helpline for updates on the situation.
In light of the current security conditions, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, along with its consulates in Lahore and Karachi, has temporarily suspended operations.
The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad announced on social media platform ‘X’ that, “Due to the current security situation, all visa appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the consulates in Lahore and Karachi have been canceled until March 6.”
