Bhopal, February 19: Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath has labeled the 2026-27 budget presented by the Mohan Yadav government in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly as an “ignorant budget.” He highlighted that the state spends a staggering ₹27,000 crores annually just to pay off interest on its debt.
The budget includes initiatives aimed at the welfare of the poor, youth, farmers, and women’s empowerment, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. However, Nath argues that the budget fails to reflect true knowledge and understanding.
In a press interaction, he stated that the state government is burdened with a debt of ₹5 lakh crores, having taken over ₹70,000 crores in loans during the current financial year alone. He criticized the government, claiming that Madhya Pradesh has become the “capital of lies” in the country, with its situation deteriorating.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav defended the budget, asserting that Madhya Pradesh is progressing under Modi’s knowledge-based development vision. He emphasized that the budget now incorporates industrial and infrastructure development as part of its commitment to the welfare of the poor, youth, farmers, and women’s empowerment.
The budget for 2026-27 is designed based on guiding principles of knowledge, focusing on welfare for the poor, skill development for youth, increasing farmers’ income, empowering women, and enhancing infrastructure to attract industrial investment.
