New Delhi, June 30: Union Communications Minister and Minister for Development of Northeast Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has reviewed the flood situation in Northeast India caused by continuous rainfall. He engaged in discussions with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Manipur to gather information on ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas.
During the review, Scindia sought updates on the ground conditions from the Chief Ministers and assured them of all possible assistance from the central government. He stated that the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region is closely monitoring the flood situation and coordinating with state governments to ensure the safety of affected individuals, strengthen relief efforts, and restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
Scindia spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. He reviewed the status of relief materials, rescue operations, and necessary assistance in the impacted regions.
Heavy rainfall in the Northeast has led to flooding and waterlogging in several states. Assam is one of the most affected states, with flood situations reported in six districts. In Arunachal Pradesh, the impact of flooding has been observed in 12 out of 28 districts due to continuous heavy rainfall.
Authorities in Sikkim and Manipur are on high alert due to adverse weather conditions. An alert has been issued in Meghalaya regarding the weather, while the situation is being closely monitored in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
The Ministry of Development of Northeast Region stated that it is maintaining constant communication with state governments and central agencies in light of changing circumstances. The ministry is prepared to provide timely assistance to the affected states as needed.
Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed his wishes for the safety and well-being of all affected citizens, stating that the central government is working alongside state governments to mitigate the impact of floods and expedite relief and restoration efforts. He assured that the people of the Northeast will receive all necessary support during this crisis.
