Jammu, June 30: The family of Sarla Bhatt, a Kashmiri Hindu nurse murdered in 1990, is expressing renewed hope for justice following the inclusion of Yasin Malik’s name in the charge sheet. PK Bhatt, Sarla’s cousin, stated that they now believe that this long-pending case may finally see resolution. However, he emphasized that Malik should face the harshest punishment for his crimes, arguing that mere imprisonment is insufficient.
In an interview with a news agency, PK Bhatt insisted that the perpetrator of Sarla Bhatt’s brutal murder deserves severe consequences. “At the very least, his eyes should be gouged out, his legs amputated, and he should be left in the open like a dog. He should not even be kept in jail, where he receives good treatment. He deserves such a punishment,” he asserted.
Reflecting on the case, PK Bhatt remarked, “Justice delayed is justice denied.” He criticized the previous government for its inability to deliver justice at the time of the incident. He recalled that Yasin Malik had previously targeted Air Force personnel and government officials. “Neelkanth Ganju, Sarla Bhatt, Girija Tikku, Satish Tikku—these are just a few names. Satish Tikku was killed by Bitta Karate, who openly admitted to the crime on camera. What justice was served for him? Now, there is a glimmer of hope that justice might finally be achieved.”
PK Bhatt recounted the horrific details of his cousin’s abduction, rape, and murder. He described how, during the time of her funeral, they were not allowed to collect her remains. “The ashes were disrespected with shoes. Despite this, we managed to gather a handful of ashes and left. Shortly after, our home was bombed at 5:00 AM, signaling that we should not have been there. Everything collapsed. We had to leave that day. After about an hour, we called the army, and they came to assist us,” he said.
“Now that the charge sheet has been filed, we hope for justice,” he concluded.
