Ranchi, August 23: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Leader of the Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) regarding the ongoing controversy over JPSC and JSSC recruitment.
Marandi accused the current government, which claims to uphold the democratic and activist legacy of Shibu Soren, of misusing power to silence the voices of students and youth advocating for their rights. He stated on Sunday that the very struggle and public movement that established the identity of JMM is now being disregarded, with police brutality unleashed on protesting students, stripping them of their democratic rights.
The Opposition Leader pointed out that JMM workers and government officials currently view the suffering students on the streets merely as a source of chaos, reflecting their moral decline. He questioned whether the legacy of Shibu Soren’s democratic struggle has now been reduced to instilling fear in youth and suppressing their rightful voices.
Marandi further criticized the Chief Minister, suggesting that if he possesses even a shred of morality and respect for Guruji’s struggles, he should abandon his arrogance and publicly apologize to the distressed candidates. He raised serious concerns about the police administration’s actions during the incidents related to the encirclement of the Assembly and the Chief Minister’s residence.
Demanding a direct response from the Chief Minister, Marandi asked which administrative officer ordered the use of force against peaceful protesters defending their rights and confiscated their symbols. He warned that if the Chief Minister does not seek answers from the state’s Director General of Police regarding this inhumane episode, the people of Jharkhand will perceive that the entire operation against students was conducted at the Chief Minister’s behest. Marandi asserted that any ruler who suppresses the voice of the public loses the moral right to govern in a democracy.
Given the seriousness of the situation, Marandi has also appealed to the state’s judiciary, urging the High Court to take suo motu cognizance of the entire incident. He emphasized the need for justice, so history does not record that the temple of justice remained a silent spectator while the governance system became arbitrary and unconstitutional.
