Ranchi, August 23: The ongoing student protests against alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC recruitment exams in Jharkhand have now drawn the attention of the cyber police. The Ranchi Cyber Crime Police Station has issued a notice to X Corporation, seeking detailed information about an account operated under the name ‘JPSC Reform Forum.’ This notice was issued under Section 94 of the Indian National Security Act (BNSA).
According to the cyber police, the account has been allegedly used to disseminate false and misleading information, videos, and images related to the Jharkhand government’s actions and the student protests. The police stated that a criminal investigation is underway, and identifying the individuals behind the account and their activities is a crucial part of the inquiry. This action is linked to case number 183/2026, registered at the Kotwali police station on August 21, 2026.
The notice references various sections of the law, indicating that the content shared via the social media account poses a risk of creating fear, confusion, or unrest among the public. The cyber police have cited several posts as the basis for their investigation. One post allegedly claims that “the government has deceived the students.” The police noted that the accompanying video includes content suggesting that “JMM goons are threatening students.”
The police have categorized this as content intentionally designed to instill fear and dissatisfaction among the public. Another post accuses the police of committing atrocities against students and spreading misleading information regarding government actions. The notice warns that such content could lead government officials and the public to believe that the state government is acting against the interests of students. The police consider this significant digital evidence in their investigation.
Additionally, another post reportedly states, “The government is killing tribals in the tribal state.” The cyber police have included this in their investigation as potentially defamatory content that could harm the reputation of the constitutional government and administration. The notice also mentions concerns about the transmission of objectionable material through electronic means and the potential for such content to incite social and communal tensions.
The police have requested the social media company to provide information related to the account holder’s identity. They have asked X to furnish the full name, residential address, contact number, and optional email of the account holder. Furthermore, they have requested login and logout records from August 10, 2026, and earlier, along with specific dates, times, and available IP addresses. The investigation agency also seeks information about the devices used to operate the account.
This development comes at a time when the student protests regarding alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC exams continue to be a significant political issue. The protesting students are demanding action against the irregularities in the recruitment exams and a robust defense of the government’s decisions in court. Meanwhile, the police’s digital investigation has now extended to social media posts related to the government’s actions and the protests.
