New Delhi, August 23: ICC Chairman Jay Shah met with Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), on Sunday. This meeting was held on the eve of the seventh death anniversary of Rohan’s father, Arun Jaitley.
Arun Jaitley, a former finance minister and prominent BJP leader, passed away on August 24, 2019, at AIIMS. He was 66 years old and had been suffering from illness for a long time. Following his father’s death, Rohan Jaitley took over as DDCA president in 2020 and has remained in this role since.
Under Rohan’s leadership, the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi is hosting the 2026 Delhi Premier League (DPL), following two successful seasons of the tournament. Additionally, both men’s and women’s T20 leagues are being organized under his guidance.
Meanwhile, under Jay Shah’s leadership, the landscape of Indian cricket has transformed significantly. As the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shah has made several landmark decisions, including equal pay for the women’s cricket team compared to their male counterparts. Under his oversight, India successfully hosted the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023.
Cricket is set to return to the 2028 Olympics after a 128-year absence, thanks to Jay Shah’s initiatives. Furthermore, cricket will be included in the 2026 Asian Games, which will take place in Japan. Under his leadership, the ICC has increased its focus on infrastructure and development programs in emerging cricket nations. In August 2026, he inaugurated the new TCA Arena in Tanzania, a significant step for cricket development in Africa. Shah is expected to make more impactful decisions in the future.
