Jamshedpur witnessed a major relief as 24-year-old Karav Gandhi, son of renowned entrepreneur Devang Gandhi, was safely rescued after being kidnapped for 14 days. Early Tuesday morning at around 4:30 am, Karav returned to his residence in Jamshedpur. According to police sources, he was found near the border between Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and Gaya in Bihar.
Police Confirm Safe Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
Jamshedpur SSP Piyush Pandey confirmed the safe recovery of the businessman’s son and stated that the primary focus of the police was the victim’s safety, which has been successfully ensured. He added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the kidnappers through raids and technical investigations. The police are conducting a comprehensive inquiry to resolve the case completely.
Details of the Kidnapping and Ransom Demand
Karav Gandhi, a resident of CH Area in Jamshedpur, was abducted between 11:30 am and 1 pm on January 13 while leaving his home in his Creta car. He had informed his family that he would first visit the SBI bank in Bishtupur, then go to his company in Adityapur before returning home for lunch. When he did not return by 1:45 pm and his phone was found switched off, the family started searching for him.
Soon after, the family received a call from an international number, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of five crore rupees, which reportedly later increased to ten crore rupees.
Special Investigation Teams Deployed Across States
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the police constituted seven Special Investigation Teams (SITs) that have been conducting raids not only in Jharkhand but also in Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. Jharkhand Police Director General Tadasha Mishra personally visited Jamshedpur two days ago to assess the investigation progress.
The safe return of Karav Gandhi has brought immense relief to the city. It remains unclear whether his release was solely due to police action or combined efforts with the family. The police are expected to hold a press conference soon to disclose full details of the case.
