Dhaka, February 5: Bangladesh is set to hold its 13th parliamentary elections on February 12. As the election approaches, political parties are rolling out enticing promises to the electorate. In this context, the radical Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami has released its election manifesto.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s manifesto pledges to foster peaceful and cooperative relations with neighboring countries, including India, based on mutual respect and fairness.

The manifesto states, “Good relations with neighboring countries: Peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations will be established with neighboring countries such as India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Thailand, based on mutual respect and honesty.”

Emphasizing its foreign policy priorities, the party highlighted its intention to strengthen ties with Muslim-majority nations. It also outlined plans to enhance cooperation with developed countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, and Canada, while increasing diplomatic, economic, and strategic engagement with Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America.

The party asserted, “Engagement with the developed world: Good and mutually beneficial relations will be established with developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, and Canada. Expansion of relations with Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America: Effective steps will be taken to broaden and deepen diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations with countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America.”

The manifesto also emphasizes active engagement with the UN and international organizations. It aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s participation in addressing global challenges such as peace, security, human rights, and economic development.

Jamaat-e-Islami confirmed its ongoing participation in regional organizations like SAARC and ASEAN. The party further stated that it would work with the international community to find a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis, ensuring their safe, dignified, and voluntary return.

Additionally, Jamaat pledged to continue Bangladesh’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions. It also promised to support and collaborate on creating a transparent, orderly, and legal migration management system. The manifesto outlines a commitment to a broad and cooperative foreign policy with several countries, although it notably does not mention Pakistan directly.
