New Delhi, March 19: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy, on Thursday. They discussed the latest developments regarding conflicts in the Middle East. Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the UAE government for its care of the Indian community.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Jaishankar stated, “I was pleased to meet UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy, on Thursday afternoon. I thanked the UAE government for its support of the Indian community and discussed the latest developments related to conflicts in the Middle East.”
The conflicts in the Middle East escalated on February 28, following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran. This assault resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top military officials. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile strikes targeting US and Israeli installations, regional capitals, and allied forces in the region.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the current situation in the Middle East. PM Modi reiterated his condemnation of all attacks on the UAE that resulted in loss of life and damage to civilian infrastructure.
Both leaders also agreed on the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. PM Modi posted on ‘X’, saying, “I spoke with UAE President, my brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and extended my best wishes for the upcoming Eid. We discussed the current situation in the Middle East and reiterated our condemnation of all attacks on the UAE that resulted in loss of innocent lives and damage to civilian infrastructure.”
He further stated, “We agreed on the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. We will continue to work together for the swift restoration of peace, security, and stability in the region.”
Previously, both leaders had a conversation on March 1, where PM Modi condemned the attacks on the UAE and expressed India’s solidarity during these challenging times.
