Jagan Mohan Reddy Criticizes Decline in Rural Economy Support Under TDP Alliance

Amaravati, April 21: Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) alliance government, led by Chandrababu Naidu, of diminishing support for the rural economy.

Reddy stated that there has been a noticeable decline in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) over the past two years. He referenced data from the Ministry of Rural Development in a post on the social media platform X to highlight this issue.

The YSRCP leader emphasized the importance of effective MGNREGA implementation for the rural economy, noting that it helps increase income for people in rural areas. This, in turn, boosts the purchasing power of rural families and strengthens the local economy. He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh was previously among the states with the best implementation of this scheme.

He alleged that the performance of the TDP alliance government in the last two years has weakened the state’s standing in this program. According to him, there has been a decline in several key metrics, including the approved labor budget, the number of working families, and overall expenditure.

Reddy also mentioned that the low growth in GST and sales tax indicates a decrease in both purchasing power and market demand, which he attributed to the weak condition of the rural economy. He urged the government to focus on rural employment schemes and take concrete steps to revitalize the rural economy.

He further claimed that the TDP alliance government is preoccupied with corruption, leaving it little time to address the issues faced by the people of the state. He suggested that this corruption is driven by an insatiable greed for money.

Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister will begin a three-day tour of his assembly constituency, Pulivendula, starting Tuesday. This area is part of the YSR Kadapa district, which he represents.

According to the schedule, he will arrive in Pulivendula around 4 PM on April 21. Following this, he will hold a ‘Praja Darbar’ at the Bhakarapuram camp office to listen to the grievances of the public. He will spend the night there.

On April 22, he will depart for Ippatla village in Lingala Mandal at 9 AM. There, he plans to meet the family of the late YSRCP leader Sudhakar Reddy to offer condolences. Afterward, he will return to the Pulivendula camp office for another ‘Praja Darbar’ to engage with the public. He will also spend the night there.

On the final day of his tour, he will return from Pulivendula. Throughout this program, he will meet with local residents and party workers to hear their concerns and suggestions.
