New Delhi, March 12: Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, delivered his first message on Thursday, broadcasted on state television. His tone was assertive, clearly stating that Iran will not cease attacks on U.S. military bases while also expressing a commitment to fostering friendships with neighboring countries. He praised the courage of the Iranian military, asserting that the nation will avenge the blood of its martyrs.
Khamenei expressed gratitude to the military for preventing the fragmentation of Iran and ensuring that no one could dominate the country amidst challenging circumstances. He stated, “I want to thank the brave fighters who are doing an excellent job at a time when our nation is under pressure and facing attacks.”
He reiterated that Iran will continue its retaliatory actions. Khamenei also emphasized the importance of improving relations with neighboring nations, stating, “We need to enhance our ties with our neighbors.”
The new Supreme Leader claimed that armed fighters in Yemen and Iraq are ready to support Iran. He mentioned that Yemen stands with Iran, and armed groups in Iraq are prepared to assist in the Islamic Revolution.
In his initial address, Khamenei called for national unity and declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to exert pressure on Iran’s enemies. He affirmed Iran’s belief in friendship with its neighbors while targeting only U.S. bases, a strategy he intends to maintain.
He warned allied nations to immediately shut down all U.S. bases in the region, stating, “Otherwise, they will be attacked.”
Since his appointment, Mujtaba Khamenei has not made public appearances. Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, informed The Guardian on Wednesday that Khamenei was injured in the same airstrike that killed his father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
