Irans Ambassador Meets Chaldean Church Leader, Affirms Support for Religious Minorities

New Delhi, May 31: The Iranian ambassador to Iraq recently met with the newly appointed head of the Chaldean Church, reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to regional stability and support for religious minorities. The ambassador also extended an official invitation for the church leader to visit Iran.

Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq met with Mar Paulus III Nona, who has recently been appointed as the new leader of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and worldwide. The meeting was attended by Charlie Anuyah Takke, a representative of Assyrian and Chaldean Christians in the Iranian Parliament.

During the meeting, Al-Sadeq congratulated Nona on his new responsibilities and expressed hopes for strengthening social ties and promoting religious peace. He praised the achievements of the Resistance Front and noted that the current security, peace, and stability in the region, along with the protection of sacred religious sites, are the result of the collective sacrifices of local people, including both Muslims and Christians.

He emphasized the crucial role played by Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in the fight against terrorism.

The ambassador reiterated Iran’s long-standing principle of safeguarding the unity and historical identity of the Chaldean Christian community, recognizing them as an essential part of Iraqi society. He formally invited the new head of the Chaldean Church to visit Iran and meet with the country’s Christian community. In response, the Chaldean Church leader commended Iran’s supportive policy towards religious minorities.

He expressed sorrow over any attacks on places of worship and highlighted the significant and positive assistance received in combating terrorism and protecting the rights of minority communities in the region.
