Iran Will Not Compromise on National Interests and Security, Says Foreign Minister Araqchi

Tehran, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi met separately with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during his visit to Tehran on October 6. Both Iranian leaders affirmed their commitment to safeguarding national interests and security.

According to a statement from the Iranian presidential office, Pezeshkian criticized the United States during his meeting with Mirzoyan. He stated, “There is no point in negotiating with an enemy that resorts to murder, sanctions, pressure, and threats every day while breaking its promises.” He added, “So far, after negotiations, the U.S. has attacked us three times. This clearly shows that they do not seek dialogue but aim to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

In remarks reported by the Xinhua news agency, Pezeshkian highlighted the lack of accountability from Washington regarding the tragic deaths of 168 innocent children in a school in Minab, southern Iran, on February 28. He asserted, “Any action or attitude against Iran is not in accordance with international law.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s statement included Araqchi’s remarks, emphasizing that Iran will robustly defend its national interests and security. However, he noted that Iran has never hesitated to pursue diplomacy to prevent escalating tensions.

Araqchi pointed out that the military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran have led to serious consequences, contributing to insecurity affecting the movement of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Mirzoyan described the relationship between Armenia and Iran as “strategic,” stating that Armenia will continue to work on enhancing cooperation with Iran.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, during a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Mirzoyan assured that Armenia would not allow its territory to be used for any actions against Iran.

On February 28, Israel and the United States jointly attacked Tehran and other Iranian cities. In retaliation, Iran launched several missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli and U.S. military bases in the region, while tightening its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
