Tehran, March 4: The farewell ceremony for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, scheduled for Wednesday night in Iran’s capital, Tehran, has been postponed.
Iranian state media confirmed that the three-day farewell event, set to begin this evening at the Imam Khomeini Prayer Hall, has been delayed.
According to Tasnim News Agency, logistical issues related to the event prompted the decision to postpone. Officials stated that a new date for the ceremony will be announced soon.
Reports indicated that the ceremony was expected to start at 10 PM and attract a large number of attendees from various provinces across the country.
An official noted that many citizens from different provinces expressed their intention to attend, which added pressure to the event’s arrangements. Due to challenges concerning security, traffic, and crowd management, the administration decided to postpone the event as a precaution.
Last Saturday, a joint US-Israel airstrike resulted in the deaths of Khamenei and several top officials. Some family members of the Supreme Leader were also killed in the air raid.
Approximately five days after their deaths, state media reported that Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been selected by the Assembly of Experts as the new Supreme Leader, although this has not been officially announced. Meanwhile, a statement from Israel’s defense minister has gained attention, asserting that anyone chosen to replace Khamenei will be targeted by Israel.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei served as Iran’s Supreme Leader and played a central role in the country’s political and religious framework. Since assuming power in 1989, he significantly influenced Iran’s foreign policy, defense strategy, and regional stance.
