New Chandigarh, April 1: In an exciting match on Tuesday, the Punjab Kings faced off against the Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium during IPL 2026. Punjab secured a fantastic season opener, winning by three wickets. A key contributor to this victory was young left-handed batter Cooper Connolly, who played his first match. Captain Shreyas Iyer lauded Connolly’s performance.
Iyer commented on Connolly’s innings, saying, “Watching the shots he played was incredible. The six off Rashid Khan’s delivery from the back foot was executed with such precision; it was simply outstanding.”

For Punjab, Vijay Kumar Vaishak took three wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal claimed two, and Marco Jansen secured one wicket.
Punjab chased down the target, scoring 165 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 19.1 overs to win by three wickets.
For GT, Prasidh Krishna was impressive, taking three wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Rabada, Ashor Sharma, Rashid Khan, and Washington Sundar each took one wicket.
