
Mumbai, April 16: In the 24th match of IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday. The opening pair of PBKS, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, achieved a remarkable feat.
Chasing a target of 196 runs set by the Mumbai Indians, Priyansh and Prabhsimran made their intentions clear right from the first over against Deepak Chahar. They scored an impressive 21 runs in the opening over, marking the highest runs ever scored in the first over by PBKS in IPL history.
The duo hit three fours and one six in Chahar’s over, breaking their own previous record. In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they had scored 18 runs in the first over. However, Priyansh couldn’t maintain his momentum and was dismissed for 15 runs off 9 balls. Cooper Connolly also fell victim to Allah Gajnafar after scoring 17 runs off 12 balls.
Earlier, the Mumbai Indians posted a total of 195 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Quinton de Kock delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 112 runs off 60 balls, with a strike rate of 186, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. Naman Dhir contributed with a solid 50 runs off 31 balls.
Captain Hardik Pandya added 14 runs, while Ryan Rickelton managed only 2 runs. In bowling, Arshdeep Singh excelled, taking 3 wickets for just 22 runs. Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen each claimed one wicket. The Mumbai Indians made two changes to their playing eleven for this match, bringing in Quinton de Kock in place of the injured Rohit Sharma and Mayank Rawat in place of Mitchell Santner.
