New Delhi, May 5: Delhi Capitals (DC) have won the toss and opted to bat in the 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The match is being held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, where both teams aim to strengthen their positions in the points table.
Chennai Super Kings currently sit sixth, having won 4 out of their 9 matches. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have also secured 4 victories but are placed seventh due to a lower net run rate.
After winning the toss, DC captain Axar Patel stated, “We will bat first. The pitch looks good, and it might slow down in the second innings. We want to give our bowlers an advantage. This is a crucial match, but we can’t think too much about the points; that adds unnecessary pressure. We just need to focus on our basics and not worry about the results. I believe we have performed well in both batting and bowling. Our fielding could improve. There is one change in our team; Lungisani Ngidi replaces Kyle Jamieson.”
On the other hand, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed, “We wanted to bowl first. The pitch seems a bit dry, and I don’t expect much change. Whether we bat or bowl first doesn’t matter. After our first three matches, we have improved in all departments. We just want to maintain that momentum, but this is a new match, and we want a good start. Young players are getting opportunities and are living up to the management’s trust, but there’s still a lot to do. We had to make some changes after Ghosh’s injury, so Akil Hossain and Gurjapneet Singh are in the team.”
CSK’s playing eleven includes: Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Urvil Patel, Kartik Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Akil Hossain, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh.
DC’s playing eleven features: KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Pathum Nissanka, Karun Nair, Tristan Stubbs, Nitish Rana, Axar Patel (captain), Ashutosh Sharma, Lungisani Ngidi, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan.
