New Delhi (Udaipur Kiran News) | Apple’s newly launched iPhone 17 Pro lineup has found itself in the middle of a controversy that users are calling ‘scratchgate’. Early adopters of the Deep Blue and Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max claim the devices scratch too easily, raising questions about durability.

Durability tester and YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything recently highlighted the issue in his video review. According to him, the anodized coating on the iPhone 17 Pro struggles to properly bond with the sharp edges of the large rear camera module. This makes the Blue and Orange variants particularly prone to visible scratches and chipping during everyday use.
Nelson pointed out that simple contact with items like keys or coins in a pocket can cause the coating on these edges to wear off. While the new aluminum unibody design aids in better heat dissipation, this visible vulnerability is seen as a setback for Apple’s premium flagship.
Despite this flaw, Nelson noted that both the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max performed impressively in all other durability tests, including bend, heat, and scratch resistance on flat surfaces. The main concern, however, remains the camera module edges, which may require users to rely on protective cases to avoid cosmetic damage.
