Inigo Martinez has dismissed rumours about a possible return to Barcelona during the January transfer window, calling the idea “impossible.” The defender, who moved from Barcelona to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr last summer, responded to speculation about a shock comeback in a recent conversation with journalist Gerard Romero.
“I can’t go back to Barcelona, it’s impossible for Laporta to spend that much money,” Martinez said with a laugh. “Honestly, I’m very happy here. Of course, I miss Barcelona; it was the best professional year of my career, and I experienced the unique Barça spirit. But now, I’ll have to watch from afar. I won’t be able to attend the Super Cup final because we play the next day.”
Reflecting on Barcelona’s recent victory over Athletic Club, Martinez expressed surprise at the Basque side’s performance. “I was surprised because Athletic’s identity is to press for the full 90 minutes,” he noted. “They held on for the first 15 or 20 minutes but then collapsed and couldn’t react. Barça started slowly, but Athletic raised the white flag.”
Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the Super Cup final on Sunday in Jeddah, a match that Martinez will be watching from Saudi Arabia.
