Mumbai, August 15: After the partition of India and Pakistan, thousands were permanently separated from their homes and neighborhoods. The Sindhi community has endured this pain for generations, yet their story has remained largely untold on screen. To address this, renowned director Indrajit Lankesh is bringing to audiences a film titled “Jai Hind Jai Sindh: A Love Story,” centered around the Sindhi community.
In an interview, Lankesh shared that he crafted the film in a way that resonates with today’s Gen Z. He believes that when individuals fight for their identity, history, and ancestral heritage, it becomes a deeply emotional and sensitive issue. This forms the backdrop of the film’s narrative.
He stated, “In India, we should all live together in love and harmony. We must not become neighbors who fight over religion, land, or selfish interests. We should never reach a point where we forget to love and support one another. India is a beautiful country with diverse cultures, languages, religions, and regions. Despite these differences, people here coexist and remain united as one nation. This is the true identity of India, and this is the message we want to convey to the younger generation and Gen Z.”
When asked about the impact of social media on audience opinions and pressures within the film industry, Lankesh responded, “No, I don’t think so. Social media is a great platform for today’s youth and Gen Z. Its greatest feature is that the power of media is now in the hands of ordinary people and young individuals.”
The director also reflected on his early career in writing and journalism. He remarked, “As a journalist, I sensed this change long ago. Previously, journalism and the voices of the people were mainly limited to journalists and a select few. Today, that voice has reached the youth, the general public, and every individual.”
Lankesh acknowledged that the misuse of social media can sometimes spread misinformation. He concluded, “As a journalist and filmmaker, I welcome the fact that journalism and the voices of ordinary people have now reached everyone. It allows people to express their views freely. Today, even someone sitting in a village can make their voice heard worldwide. This is the true freedom of expression we have always talked about.”
