Indore police swiftly returned ₹1.45 lakh to a textile trader who fell victim to an online scam involving a fake electricity department official.

Indore, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : In a remarkable response to a recent online fraud case, police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, successfully recovered ₹1.45 lakh within 24 hours for a local textile trader. The trader, identified as Vishal, reported the incident after receiving a suspicious message on WhatsApp from an unknown number.

The message claimed to be from an electricity department official, warning Vishal that his electricity supply would be cut off that evening due to unpaid bills. Following this alarming notification, the scammer sent a link for payment. Believing the message, Vishal clicked on the link, which led to an immediate transfer of funds from his credit card.

Upon realizing he had been duped, Vishal promptly lodged a complaint with the police. The Indore Crime Branch acted swiftly, managing to refund the entire amount before it could be deposited into the suspect’s accounts.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against online scams. They advise individuals not to trust phone numbers found on Google or to accept calls from unknown persons claiming to represent official institutions without verification.

Furthermore, police stress the importance of keeping personal banking information, including OTPs and PINs, confidential and not sharing them with anyone, even if they claim to be an authorized official. For any banking-related issues, individuals should only contact verified representatives or official websites.
