New Delhi, August 26: The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 is set to take place in Dubai from August 28 to September 13. Indonesia’s women’s team has qualified for the tournament for the first time. Just two days before the tournament begins, Indonesia has announced its squad, making it the last team to do so.
The team features a blend of young and experienced players. Veteran captain Nanda Sakarini will lead the squad, joining a strong bowling group alongside Velik. Notable players include ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 star Vesika Ratna Devi, Putri Suwandewi, and Sang Meiyapirani. Other team members include Desi Wulandari, Li Kiao, and Ni Kadek Ariyani.
Indonesia’s qualification campaign was impressive, reaching the semifinals before losing to Thailand, and subsequently falling to Hong Kong, China in the third-place playoff. The team secured its spot in the tournament through the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in June, with only 11 members participating throughout the event. Sakarini was the leading run-scorer during the qualifiers.
Indonesia is placed in Group B of the Asia Cup, alongside Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the UAE. Their first match in the tournament is against Bangladesh on August 31, followed by games against Sri Lanka on September 2 and the UAE on September 4.
Cricket fans will be closely watching Indonesia’s performance as they make their debut in the tournament.
