Surat, March 8: The T20 World Cup 2026 final is set to feature Team India facing off against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, expressed that the excitement among the nation’s 1.4 billion people to witness the roar of India’s 11 lions is palpable.

Sanghvi stated, “While only 11 players take the field, the entire nation of 1.4 billion watches the match with one voice, chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai.’” In the final, the Indian team batted first, scoring 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls, including 5 fours and 8 sixes.

Samson has now set a record for the highest score in a T20 World Cup final, surpassing Marlon Samuels, who previously held the record with an unbeaten 85 runs in 2016. Abhishek Sharma also made a significant contribution, scoring 52 runs off just 21 balls. Ishan Kishan added 54 runs from 25 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson formed a formidable partnership, adding 98 runs for the first wicket in just 7.1 overs. Samson then teamed up with Ishan Kishan to build a crucial 105-run partnership for the second wicket. Hardik Pandya chipped in with 18 runs, while Shivam Dube finished strong, scoring 26 runs off just 8 balls.

With this performance, the Indian team set a record for the highest score in a T20 World Cup knockout match, breaking their own record from the semi-final against England, where they scored 253 runs for 7 wickets.
