Indias Engineering Goods Exports Surge by Nearly 9% in April to $10.4 Billion

New Delhi, May 28: India’s engineering goods exports witnessed a significant annual increase of nearly 9% in April for the fiscal year 2026-27. This data was released on Thursday, highlighting the resilience of the sector amidst logistical and production challenges due to tensions in West Asia.

According to EEPC India, engineering goods exports rose to $10.35 billion in April, up from $9.52 billion during the same period last year, marking an 8.78% increase.

The growth was primarily driven by strong performance in key product segments, particularly aluminum and related products, which saw a remarkable 38% increase. Copper and its products experienced an impressive 80% rise during the month.

Exports of electrical machinery and equipment grew by 9.5%, while two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicle exports surged by 36%. Additionally, exports of auto components and parts increased by 7.2%.

Out of 34 engineering goods panels, 28 reported annual export growth in April.

Commenting on the performance of engineering goods, EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chadha noted that despite tensions in the Middle East, export growth is evident across most sectors and regions.

He pointed out that regional conflicts have put pressure on exports to the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region. However, a recently signed bilateral trade agreement between India and Oman has resulted in increased exports to Oman.

Chadha emphasized that while India has established several free trade agreements with key partners, industry and policymakers must address market access challenges to fully leverage these agreements.

In April, the US, UK, and Germany were the primary markets for India’s engineering goods. Conversely, exports to the UAE, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia saw a decline.

Exports to China for engineering goods surged by 81.7% year-on-year, reaching $301.08 million in April.

Regionally, North America and the European Union recorded increases of 7.1% and 13%, respectively. However, weak demand and a slowdown in automobile and component shipments have kept exports to the WANA and ASEAN markets subdued.

Government estimates indicate that engineering goods accounted for 23.8% of India’s total merchandise exports in April 2026, slightly down from 24.9% in the same month last year.
